It's Open House Night for Parents!
Welcome 7th Grade Parents!
I know you are all anxious to get some back-to-school information about your child's Texas History class this year. So here are some fast facts..
1. There are two Texas History teachers this year at Kelly Lane: Ms. Renee Oricchio and Mr. Jake Young. We are both long-timers here at Kelly Lane. We both taught 8th grade U.S. History last year and now we are both jumping into 7th grade Texas History. We are super-excited and we have been planning all summer. (okay, that fact wasn't so fast.. but it was really, really important.)
2. The QR codes posted on the walls will take you to links that apply to both of our sets of classes. So it doesn't matter if you have Mr. Young or Ms. Oricchio. It's one size fits all in Texas History. We share the website, the Weekly Cattle Drive newsletter, and the Amazon Wishlist (which is why so many things request "2")
3. What does your child need supply-wise for Texas History? The most important thing is a composition notebook (please no spirals - they tend to unravel and poke us). After that, you might want to get your own set of colored pencils (8 pack), highlighters and, of course, pencils and pens. Lots of pencils and pens!
4. We have done a lot of soul searching over the summer reflecting on what kids really need the most these days after these past couple of years. What we keep coming back to is the word "joy". We want learning to be fun and joyful and engaging. So we are really putting out the all-call for things like games, puzzles, goofy things like animal puppets that stimulate creativity and, again, joy. For that reason, we have some pretty unusual items on our Amazon wishlist. We also have a Donor's Choose project, as well, to create a board games and puzzle hang-out for enrichment time during the school day and after school, as well.
If you are interested in supporting our Donor's Choose project, the QR code for that is..
